➢    Adjunct faculty Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service, 2002-present;
➢    Faculty 2008-09 Urbino (Italy) Summer School for Paleoclimatology.
➢    White House Office of Science, Technology and Policy (OSTP), 1996/97
➢    Shizuoka University, Japan. NSF-sponsored visiting researcher; 1991,

Research and service:
➢    Thirty years research on paleoclimatology, coastal, estuarine, and deep-sea ecosystems, sea level change, biodiversity, paleoceanography, stratigraphy, biogeography, land-use impacts, evolution, taxonomy.
➢    Directed research on sea-level, global climate reconstruction, Chesapeake and Tampa Bay ecosystems, deep-sea circulation and climate, Atlantic Coastal Plain neotectonics.  US and international field experience.
➢    Organized cruises to Chesapeake Bay  (IMAGES coring by Marion-Dufresne)
➢    Member IODP cruise to Arctic Ocean/North Pole 2004.
➢    Committees on Chesapeake Bay Management, mid-Atlantic regional Climate assessment, Everglades restoration. 
➢    Co-editor of Global and Planetary Change, editorial boards international journals,
➢    Reviews NSF, NOAA, EPA, NGS, NERC and ACS grants, papers for many scientific journals. 
➢    Various university tenure and thesis committees. USGS Meritorious Service Award and Unit Award for Excellence,
➢    Research reported in NY Times, Baltimore Sun, New Scientist, The Chesapeake Bay Journal, interviews by the BBC, NPR, AP, Fox.

➢    Authored/co-authored ~ 160 scientific articles in  >50 peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Nature, Paleoceanography, PNAS, Ecology, and Geology, and twenty proceedings volumes. 
➢    Author of books “Principles of Paleoclimatology” (1999) and “Paleoclimate: Understanding Climate Change Past and Present” (in press)
➢    Co-editor of symposia volumes.  
➢    Invited lectures at many universities, and in foreign countries, international conferences; organized AGU symposia.
