Volcanic Gas Emissions

My main research focus is on applied geochemical monitoring of volcanic emissions at Cascade and Alaskan volcanoes.  My work is primarily for hazard evaluation and mitigation and is accomplished using airborne and ground-based techniques.  Other recent research endeavors have been geared toward understanding the atmospheric chemistry of volcanic plumes with particular emphasis on in-plume reactive halogen chemistry.  In addition, I can often be found tinkering in the lab with the goal of developing new instrumentation and techniques for monitoring volcanic emissions.
