Short Biography

Kristina H. Yamamoto holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Denver, an MS in GIS from the University of Denver, and a BS in Natural Resource Management from the University of California Berkeley. She currently works at the U.S. Geological Survey as a geographer for the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center conducting remote sensing and GIS research for The National Map, and she's a huge fan of biogeography and geospatial topics. Her graduate research involved using remote sensing data to extract information about sea turtle nesting sites in Turkey and Florida, and included a summer spent at a nesting site on the Mediterranean. She has also worked as a staff research associate at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology in Berkeley and as an adjunct professor at The Women's College at the University of Denver, teaching atmospheric science to non-traditional women students. One of her passions is presenting scientific work to a wide variety of audiences, because she believes that science should be accessible to everyone.
