I am a Public Affairs Specialist with the USGS Office of Communications and Publishing. My main duty is to maximize USGS news coverage as a means to increase public awareness on the value and relevance of USGS science. I primarily work to promote USGS research on natural hazards, including earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, solar storms, and coastal science topics such as storms, sea-level rise, and erosion. I also help with communication for a variety of other Earth science topics from energy resources to minerals, climate change, ecosystems, water, geography, and more.
My portfolio includes press releases, podcasts, video, press conferences, media interview coordination, communication plans, social media engagement, feature stories on the USGS homepage, and other outreach strategies and products.
I received a M.A. degree in Communications from George Mason University in 2009 and earned a B.S. degree in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech in 2006.
